May 09,2022

Clothing Washing Instruction Care Labels can look confusing at first glance. Although different countries have different labeling schemes, there is a general change in international labeling. If you take the time to understand the meaning of each symbol, the next time you need to know whether an item can be washed, bleached, dried, ironed or dry cleaned, you can quickly identify them.

Wash your clothes

Identify when to machine-wash clothes. If the Washing Instruction Care Label of your clothes has a symbol of a three-sided container with wavy lines on the top, wash it with a machine. You can machine wash it as usual without any special consideration.

If there is a line under this symbol, use a permanent press wash cycle.

If there are two lines under this symbol, please use the gentle washing procedure.

If this symbol contains a point, wash it with cold water.

If this symbol contains two points, wash with warm water.

If this symbol contains three points, wash with hot water.

If this symbol contains a number, please clean it with the temperature of that number.

Determine when to hand wash your clothes. If there is a hand washing symbol on the Washing Instruction Care Label of your clothes, you should wash them by hand. You shouldn't put items with this sign in the washing machine because the cloth may be too fragile.

Generally speaking, you should not wash things by hand at a temperature higher than 40 degrees Celsius.

Identify when you can't wash clothes. If there is a washing symbol with an X on the clothes, please do not wash. This applies to machine wash and hand wash. Instead, send the clothes to the dry cleaner to ensure that the fabric is properly cleaned.

Bleach your clothes

If there is a triangle on the Washing Instruction Care Label, bleach the clothes. Although this triangle doesn't look like a bottle of bleach, try to remember that it represents a bleach. You can bleach as needed. Use chlorine or oxygen bleach on your clothes.

Identify which bleach to use. Use non-chlorine bleach only if there is a diagonal in the symbol of the triangle. Chlorine bleach will leach dyes from fabrics, so it is generally only used for white fabrics. Nonchlorine bleach is oxygen-based and should not stain or damage your clothes.

Do not use bleach if the triangle symbol has an X through it. This applies to chlorine-based and oxygen-based bleaches. If you have stains, try to remove them by other methods.
